Fiachra Ó Marcaigh – technical and communications expertise
Fiachra Ó Marcaigh, AMAS Director and Senior Consultant, brings a broad range of internet strategy, communications and IT experience to his work for clients.
He has played a lead role in implementing large-scale web and technology projects in Ireland since the early 1990s, and has worked at senior level in national and online media for over 20 years.
At AMAS, he has led significant strategic digital projects including:
- Internet strategy formulation
- Devising processes and frameworks to implement such strategies
- Specifying complex web and content projects
- Leading research, usability and accessibility assignments
- Planning website, eCommerce, intranet redevelopment and relaunch projects
His approach to projects combines a strategic view with attention to detail and a strong emphasis on the client’s business or organisational goals. An important focus is on maximising the return on investment while minimising risks.
User experience
User experience, universal design, usability and accessibility are among Fiachra’s professional interests. At AMAS, he has led a series of such projects for business and government clients.
Fiachra chairs the Irish Internet Association’s User Experience Working Group and serves on the committee of the Ireland Chapter of the Project Management Institute. He is a regular guest speaker at conferences and is a media commentator on IT, usability, accessibility and online communications.

Fiachra is a former Assistant Editor with the Irish Times newspaper, where he specified, bought and managed the technology used by journalists. He led the team that implemented new editorial technical initiatives, and contributed to the pioneering creation of Ireland.com in 1994.
From 2000 until 2002, he worked with the internet publisher DigiServe. He managed the interface between technical and editorial teams to create four major social network portals. He also managed EDO Software Services, a Digiserve subsidiary.
A fluent Irish speaker, he has advised on bilingual and multilingual content requirements for large-scale web projects.
