“Smart Futures Start Here” is an online careers fair for second-level students, highlighting career opportunities in information and communications technology (ICT) sector in Ireland.
During the fair from 23-27 January 2012, leading ICT companies will answer live questions from students and guidance counsellors about how to get into ICT.
ICT Ireland, the Irish Software Association and STEPS with the support of Discover Science & Engineering (DSE), are engaged in the “Smart Futures” joint campaign to highlight the large number of employment opportunities in the sector here. AMAS is assisting its client DSE in implementing the project.
Industry partners include Microsoft, Ericsson, HP, SAP, Cisco, CPL, Openet, Xilinx, Dell, Storm Technology, Sunlife and Trilogy Technologies.
Digital content competition
As well as the careers fair, the Smartfutures.ie website includes a digital content competition, career stories and regular blog updates about the sector.
For the competition, secondary students can enter a piece of digital content reflecting the theme “Smart Futures” – competition categories include animation, audio, games, video, mobile, podcasts, tech journalism and websites. The prizes include an Xbox Kinect, Nokia Lumnia Windows phone, HP laptop, iPad and Samsung Home Cinema. There are also student work placements with top companies on offer.
