New accessibility auditing guidance, produced by AMAS on behalf of the National Disability Authority (NDA), is to be launched this summer.

The primary audience for it consists of managers responsible for websites in the public sector, but businesses are also encouraged to use it.

This non-technical guide to web accessibility auditing is intended to:
• Inform readers on how to improve the accessibility of websites for people with disabilities
• Demystify the auditing process and get value for money from accessibility consultants
• Indicate the scale and cost of work involved

AMAS won the contract to work with the NDA to produce the accessibility auditing guidance following a competitive tender. Dónal Rice of the NDA said: “AMAS brought a very professional approach to this work. Their experience in helping organisations improve their online presence helped ensure this guidance piece was at all times focused, relevant and in line with best practice.”
This work with the NDA builds on AMAS’s experience of usability and accessibility consultancy for clients such as:

• Diageo
• Bank of Ireland Group
• The Environmental Protection Agency
• The Revenue Commissioners
• The National Consumer Agency
• The Health and Safety Authority
People on the street
AMAS also has extensive experience of creating guidelines and best-practice manuals for web teams. Developing the AMAS eBusiness Audit and applying for over 30 clients has given us in-depth understanding of auditing online channels.

AMAS looks forward to the launch of the accessibility auditing guidance, and related NDA resources on accessibility in the coming weeks.
